    Event Description:
    (San Antonio, TX) - The 10th Annual Legends Gala presented by The South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce will take place on Wednesday – October 19th, 2016 from 6-9p.m. at The Pearl Stable.  This annual gala commemorates those who continually give their time and attention to the betterment of San Antonio’s southern sector.
     
    Previous South Chamber Legends include Archbishop Patrick Flores, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, Center for the Intrepid, Tino & Millie Duran, Former Mayor Lila Cockrell, Pat Frost, “Jesse James” Leija, Father David Garcia, Palo Alto College, among others. 
     
    2016 Legends Gala Honorees
     
    Greg Garcia
    Greg Garcia, a native San Antonian, earned his BBA from Texas A&M University where he was an active member of the Corps of Cadets. From 1995 to 2012 he served The Texas A&M University System Office of Government Relations as Assistant Vice Chancellor. Garcia was an instrumental voice in helping pass Senate Bill 800, the legislation that helped bring Texas A&M University – San Antonio to the Southside, where he then served as the Associate Vice President for Government Relations from 2012 - 2016. 
     
     
    Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft
    Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft Ed.D. started his position as Superintendent of Southwest Independent School District in 2010. Dr. Verstuyft has served as the Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Human Resources for Southwest since 2005 and has also held the positions of Executive Director of Administration and Pupil Services, Principal of Southwest HS, Principal of McAuliffe Junior High, Assistant Principal of McAuliffe Junior High and began his career in the Southwest ISD as a teacher and coach at McNair Junior High in 1989.  Dr. Verstuyft successful tenure is evident in SWISD’s continued growth, capital investments, and the real estate growth in the area.
     
     
    Cindy Taylor
    Cindy Taylor served as President/CEO of the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce for 21 years and helped bring in sustainable development to the southern sector such as Texas A&M University - San Antonio, Mission Trail Baptist Hospital and Toyota Texas Motor Manufacturing.  When San Antonio lost military missions at Kelly AFB and Brooks AFB, Cindy ensured that the Chamber lead the way in creating community planning helping forge Port San Antonio & Brooks City Base.  Today Cindy is working to revitalize the Hot Wells Ruins, serving as Executive Director of the Hot Wells Conservancy.
     
     
    Garcia Art Class
    Garcia Art Glass, Inc. opened in 1998 as the first hot glass studio in downtown San Antonio. Specializing in the functional to the whimsical, these one of a kind hand blown art creation always enrich their environment. Over the years Garcia Art Glass had evolved into a family business with Founder & Creative Director Gini Garcia’s family all playing a crucial role. Through the support of a strong team, Garcia Art Glass has successfully created hundreds of commissioned works, including our annual Legends Commemorative Award. 
     
     
    Emilio Navaira
    Emilio Navaira III known to his fans simply as “Emilio” was a Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter of Tejano and County music. Emilio was also one of the few Tejano artists to have significant success in both the United States and Mexico, and was called the "Garth Brooks of Tejano."  A native of the Southside of San Antonio, graduating from McCollum High School, Emilio went on to attend Southwest State University on a music education scholarship.  Along with Selena, Emilio was one of the most prominent artists that helped popularize Tejano music.
